Haters, please give technology a break.

A lot of people complain about “technology”. I use quotations because recently I have heard certain people make broad statements about the shortcomings of technology as a whole when for the most part technology has greatly improved our quality of living. Yes it was nice when people lived slower paced lives without watches, calculators and vehicles but I am pretty sure there is no turning back now. I hate to say it but unless there is an apocalypse, or some other dramatic, destructive event, I doubt we will revert to a culture that does not use the technologies we have created. From my standpoint we should embrace the technologies we find useful, work to improve the ones that could be, and trash the useless ones. Seems simple enough.

No technology is not perfect, and yes it can be irritating when it fails, but give it a chance. The worst is to watch people misuse their software or hardware and then blame it for breaking down. Technology works if it is used in the way it was intended to be used. I have watched quite a few of my programs crash, but usually at the moment they crash I had been asking them to perform past their capability. It is also sad to me to hear of people hating on technology when the technology they are using is outdated. Do not tell me “computers” are the devil and are not helpful to you in any way when you are using one from 1998. It is not computers it is your computer. The same goes for other outdated equipment people love to trash talk. The one exception is printers. There are some exceptions but I give you full permission to rant about the typical home printer. (Which pains me deep down to say since a large part of my major was studying the printing industry, but I have to admit now that home printers can be a pain.)
